Sentara RMH: Our People Are Our Greatest Asset

One of the most pleasing things I’ve discovered during my first year as the hospital’s president is the level of commitment among our staff members to providing safe, high-quality, patient-centered health care. I see that same commitment from providers in all areas of service—physicians, nurses, clinical providers, support staff and volunteers—and I’m proud to lead a team of such dedicated individuals.

It’s that commitment to our patients that prompts Sentara RMH to continue expanding and enhancing our services to meet the healthcare needs of our community, and you can read about some of those initiatives in this issue ofSentara RMH Magazine.Beginning on page 32, learn about our new molecular breast imaging system, which provides a highly accurate screening for women who require a more detailed study than provided by conventional mammography, and also enables physicians to biopsy suspicious tissue during a screening appointment. On page 5 you can read about a new FDA-approved treatment for chronic heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Known as LINX®, the minimally invasive treatment is highly effective in providing relief from these very common health complaints. You can also find information about a fundraising initiative the RMH Foundation is spearheading to help purchase a new linear accelerator for radiation treatments in our Hahn Cancer Center. The newest line of linear accelerators offers a degree of safety and effectiveness that takes cancer treatment by radiation therapy to a whole new level.

The ever-changing landscape of contemporary health care requires physicians and hospitals to explore new ways of providing care, and Sentara RMH is actively engaged in those initiatives, as explained in the article about the Sentara RMH Medical Group. The Medical Group is working hard to expand services in various locations throughout our service area, actively recruiting and employing physicians in a wide range of specialty care services. To help ensure that the level of care offered in our community is truly exceptional, Sentara RMH also works in close collaboration with independent physician practices in the area.

Looking forward, we should see the opening this spring of a new primary care clinic in Bridgewater, thanks to a collaboration among Sentara, Carilion and the Sentara RMH Medical Group. The new clinic will offer family care, along with radiology, laboratory and rehabilitation services, in an area of growing population that has been underserved medically in recent years.

Sentara RMH would be nothing without the fine people who work here at the hospital and in our many clinics and physician practices. Building new facilities and acquiring the most advanced medical and imaging technology is essential, but we recognize that our greatest asset is our people, the dedicated members of our staff who embody the Sentara values of patient-centered care, quality, safety and integrity.

Thank you for trusting this great team of caregivers to provide your healthcare needs.
